The Western Gate Chapter and the Choctawhatchee Chapter, are the most northwestern chapters in the Florida Trail Association. Their mission is to develop, maintain, promote, and
protect a continuous public hiking
trail the length of the state of
Florida, called the Florida National
Scenic Trail, and other loop and side
trails, together called the Florida
Trail System; and to educate the
public by teaching appreciation for
and conservation of the natural
beauty of Florida; and to provide
opportunities to hike and camp.
They draw their members from Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton Counties. They are dedicated to hiking, camping and the enjoyment of the outdoors. They also build and maintain trails in the 4 county region. Completed trails are the Jackson Red Ground trail in Blackwater State Forest and the Gulf Islands National Seashore section of the Florida Nation Scenic Trail. One part of the Western Gate's trails extends through the Blackwater State Forest northward to the Alabama line. At present, both chapters are building sections of the Florida National Scenic Trail through Eglin Air Force Base. "It is our dream that one day there will be a continuous footpath from the Everglades of Florida to Mount Katadin in Maine. The trails the chapters are building today are part of that dream."
The Western Gate Chapter of the Florida Trail Association, Inc. meets at the First Christian Church located at the intersection of Goodrich and Langley between Davis Hwy. and Ninth Avenue the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. Refreshments are served at 6:30 PM.
They will be providing information on bird and other wildlife preservation plus habitat conservation and restoration.

Greyhound pet adoption available during the day. Greyhounds placed though GPA are usually between 2 and 5 years old. They stand between 24 and 31 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 50 and 90 pounds, females generally being smaller than males. Greyhounds come in a variety of colors including black, red, blue, fawn, or a combination of these colors, various shades of brindle and all of those colors broken with white.
Greyhound Pets of America, a racing neutral organization was founded in 1987 for the purpose of finding good pet homes for ex-racing Greyhounds. GPA-EC, A recognized chapter of Greyhound Pets of America, is a volunteer, not-for-profit corporation organized to educate the public of the value of retired greyhounds as pets and receive and process greyhounds for adoption.
